Sharon McCabe-Whittington wrote a post about the man's plight on a community outreach group on Facebook last week, calling on anyone who may be able to help to come forward.

She told News24 that she had seen the man delivering newspapers on his bicycle in their area every day.

"He has been working in the suburb for almost three years now."

"In the past, I have seen him on his bike with the newspapers and sometimes he has even had flat tyres and my husband and I, being cyclists ourselves, have assisted him with repairing his punctures," she added.

McCabe-Whittington said that last week she had seen the man, known only as Tony, without his bicycle.

"I asked him why he was delivering papers on foot and he said that his bicycle has been stolen. I thought that it would be nice if people could rally together and maybe get him a second-hand replacement," she added.

"At the end of the day, this man is supporting his family," McCabe-Whittington said.

Efforts to identify and contact the deliveryman in question were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
