Cape Town – The suspension of Western Cape ANC chairperson Marius Fransman and secretary Faiez Jacobs, which has prompted Luthuli House to send caretakers is acknowledgement that the party is in disarray in the province, said Western Cape DA leader Patricia de Lille.

"The DA notes that the Western Cape ANC has now officially been put under administration by Luthuli House, with Gwede Mantashe announcing this afternoon that caretakers will be deployed to the Western Cape ANC because it is currently leaderless," De Lille said in a statement.

De Lille said the ANC should have suspended Truman Prince as well.

"The ANC was silent today [Monday] about the dark clouds of criminality hanging over the head of Prince, when today the ANC should have done the right thing and suspended him."

De Lille came out firing by accusing the ANC in the Western Cape of putting their own interests before the interests of the people. "To the ANC Western Cape, the ANC comes first and everyone else comes second," she said.

Fransman has been asked to step aside pending investigation of a sexual harassment allegation against him while Jacobs was suspended pending the outcome of an assault case against him.

Meanwhile Prince is in hot water after he requested that a tender be given to a construction company which was "sympathetic and having a relationship with the ANC". He was also alleged to have assaulted a female traffic officer.
