Cape Town - Lekita Moore was stabbed 98 times, the State has told the magistrate's court in Bishop Lavis where her boyfriend Cameron Wilson is applying for bail.

Wilson, 19, has been charged with murder and faces several other charges in a number of other cases.

The investigating officer in the case, detective Constable Elsen Loggenstein, testified that Moore, 18, was stabbed 98 times, including 35 times in the neck and head and 15 times in the lower stomach and genitals, Netwerk24 reported.

Loggenstein said blood found on a jacket in Wilson's bedroom the day after the murder came from Moore and another woman.

Moore's naked body was found in a field in Valhalla Park on September 12. She had been raped and mutilated.

Wilson, 19, allegedly also attacked two other women on September 10 and is facing charges of attempted murder in both cases.

Four hours after these attacks he allegedly also attacked another woman and was charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

A danger to witnesses

The State opposed bail on the grounds that there are six other cases pending against him in which he faces charges including four of murder and three of attempted murder.

One of these cases is about the rape and murder of his cousin.

He was out on bail when Moore was murdered.

The State said he is a danger to witnesses.

Xavier Bester, who was allegedly involved in one of the assaults, as well as in Moore's murder, was shot and killed on the night her body was found.

Wilson's legal representative Nico Janse van Rensburg said that he was released on bail in the other case proved that the case was not serious enough to refuse bail.

"What makes this case different?" he asked.

He also said Wilson went to police himself after the murder when he heard they were looking for him.

"He is not someone who wants to run away from the police."

The case was postponed until December 13.
