Lesufi praises teachers at Mamelodi school for 100% matric pass rate

2016-01-13 14:30

Pretoria - Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has heaped praises on teachers from Ribane Laka Secondary School after the matric class of 2015 achieved a 100% pass rate.

"Without the teachers, we wouldn’t be here. You could have chosen to be at Curro or Hoerskool Waterkloof, but you chose to serve the poorest of the poor. We thank you," said Lesufi.

Lesufi told them he knew of the challenges they faced and promised to change their situation.

"I know the conditions you work under and we are going to change this school," he said.

Lesufi said they would ensure the learners got a school they could be proud of. He added that the government would also work to ensure that the school migrated to paperless classrooms.

He said the government was in the process of assisting learners to get licenses.

"All Grade 11s in the province, by the time you leave school, you will all have a K53 drivers licence. By April this year, all Grade 11s in public schools will have tablets," he said.
