Durban - A Swazi national has been sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping, raping and trafficking his step-daughter, the Hawks said on Tuesday.

The Durban Regional Court on Friday sentenced the 40-year-old to two terms of life imprisonment and a further year for violating the Immigration Act, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said.

The sentences will run concurrently.

He kidnapped his step-daughter and two other children in Swaziland and took them to South Africa in 2015. A case was opened and Interpol handled the docket.

The children were rescued in 2016 and moved to a place of safety.
