Polokwane - A Limpopo man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his wife, the National Prosecuting Authority said on Wednesday.

The Limpopo High Court found Isaac Maimela, 30, guilty of killing his wife Thelma Ranoto, 29. They were married, but living separately with their parents, provincial NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said.

On November 8 2014, Ranoto left work, but never reach her Moletji homestead. Her body was found in the veld the following day.

Police found Maimela’s car at a Glasfit dealership in Polokwane. A window was damaged and a bullet was found lodged on the inside of the front passenger door. The interior was wet, indicating it had been washed.

Police later found traces of Ranoto’s blood in the car and determined that the damage to the window had been caused by a bullet.

Maimela pleaded not guilty and did not testify.
