Tzaneen - A teenage boy has been arrested for raping his 77-year-old grandmother in Mhlava Cross, Tzaneen, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old allegedly attacked his grandmother while she sat under a lapa in her yard last week on Sunday, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

"He grabbed her by the neck and pulled her to the house and raped her."

The teenager then fled the scene, Ngoepe said.

A case was opened and the teenager was arrested on Monday afternoon after police had been tracking him for more than a week.

He was expected to appear in the Nkoankoa Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of rape.

Investigations into the matter were continuing.
