Lebowakgo - A Limpopo woman who allegedly killed her week old baby was released on R500 bail by the Magatle Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Agnes Molema, 35, appeared before the court on a charge of murder after she allegedly murdered her infant at Zebediela Hospital.

The case was remanded to September 5 for further investigation.

Police said shortly after Molema gave birth to the baby at the hospital, she allegedly went to the Children Unit, where the baby was being kept, under the guise that she wanted to breast feed the child. Instead, she allegedly grabbed the baby from the incubator and assaulted the nurse.

Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said Molema then allegedly struck the baby against the floor.

"The baby died instantly," Ngoepe said.

Molema was arrested soon after.
