Gruesome details emerge in Tokai murder case - As it happened

The case against four men involved in the murder of Franziska Blöchliger has been postponed to March 18 for a bail application. All will remain in custody at Wynberg holding cells. WARNING: This update contains graphic detail.

IN SUMMARY: Four men made their first appearance in Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Friday for the murder of 16-year-old Franziska Blöchliger.

The State prosecutor laid out the charges the four face, including rape and murder. The court heard gruesome details about how the teenager had been raped and robbed of an iPhone, watch, headset and diamond ring.

Semen was found at the scene and has been sent of for analysis. The details left loved ones in court visibly shaken.

All four will apply for legal aid representation. Accused one complained about the conditions at Wynberg holding cells and why he would prefer to be held at Pollsmoor Prison. But the magistrate denied this request and all the accused will be held at Wynberg court's holding cells.

The accused cannot be named because of the rape charge.

They will return to court on March 18 for a bail application.

He told the magistrate he doesn't want to go to Wynberg police cells because you don't get food there. Magistrate says he will get food and will be able to bath. He had also expressed concern at the danger there. Some people in the court snigger at his concerns.

The deceased was jogging when she was killed. iPhone, watch, headset, diamond ring part of those items robbed.

Indication that the victim in this matter was raped anally as well as vaginally. Huge gasps of shock and orderly asks court to keep quiet.

Jasmina Osman, is a business manager and one of three directors at Constantia Waldorf school. She says she has been here at court since early this morning to make sure she could get a spot, she told Jenna Etheridge. She remembers when the Blöchliger family came to their school in 2008, from the German school.

"I still have her file on my desk. I remember looking at this little girl, an 8 or 9 year old, who was an absolute princess. I fell in love with her. We just had a connection," Osman says.

Florian spoke to News24Live about the afternoon 16-year-old Franziska went missing in Tokai forest. Police, neighbourhood watch members and family frantically searched for her on Monday, 7 March 2016.

The teenager disappeared while running in the forest. She and her mother were on different paths in the reserve. Mother Shireen was walking the family dog and daughter Franziska wanted to go jog along another route.

While four people have been arrested for Franziska's murder, the case of the killing of another teenager in the township of Khayelitsha has had no progress.

The half-naked body of Sinoxolo Mafevuka, 19, was found in a communal toilet about 100m from her home on March 1. There have been no arrests in the matter. 

News24's Thulani Gqirana reports: Sitting in the tiny blue shack where Mafevuka grew up, her cousin Dan Mtala said on Thursday the family was heartbroken because the teenager had been a “beautiful soul”.

Mtala said the police had not even informed them of any developments.

“We are very sad, because Sinoxolo died last week. They only came today because the minister was here. We don’t know how she died even, she didn’t have any scars to show what happened to her. She just died. We maybe think she was strangled,” he said.

Thomas Knemeyer, who is the acting as the family spokesperson, says that he heard that a mother of one of the accused gave him up. He said this still needed to be confirmed and was just something he had heard. "I really take my hat off [to her]. I couldn't imagine anything harder," he told journalists outside the Wynberg Magistrate's Court.

Four people linked to the attack on teenager, Franziska Blöchliger, are expected to make their first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Three men, in their twenties, are facing charges of murder and also the possibility of more charges being added at a later stage, said Western Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut.

The trio were arrested a day after the 16-year-old was murdered and robbed in Tokai Forest on Monday.Traut said the fourth person would appear for possession of suspected stolen property.

He did not confirm whether the charge was linked to the teen’s iPhone that was taken during the attack.
