Police have been engaged in running battles with looters in Mabopane on Thursday night. Officers have encircled the Central City Mall.

The latest from Jeff Wicks: Police have been engaged in running battles with looters in Mabopane on Thursday night. Officers have encircled the Central City Mall. Sporadic skirmishes with looters around the borders of the mall, firing salvos of rubber bullets to rebuff advancing looters.

Shortly after 8pm a group of officers entered the mall in an effort to drive out looters who had broken the fences. This is the second night in which the mall has been a theatre of fighting between cops and armed looters.

On Thursday morning the bodies of two men were discovered, one in a passageway and the other in a garden of an adjacent house.
