Johannesburg - Beer flowed freely on Hillbrow's streets after an SABMiller truck collided with a police van on Thursday morning.

Police said locals were seen collecting what was left of the spilled beer moments after the collision.

Police spokesperson sergeant Mdudzi Zondo said the police van was travelling through the intersection at Esselen Street and Banket Street when it was involved in a collision with the truck that "came from nowhere".

"We suspect the driver lost control and was unable to turn at the intersection," Zondo said.

Police said a dozen onlookers rushed to the truck to salvage what was left of the beer.

"No one was injured during the accident and the situation was contained immediately. Most of the SABMillier stock was destroyed unfortunately."
