Cape Town – Two young men were rescued after they got stuck on a ledge on the Jonkershoek Mountain in the Western Cape, Wilderness Search and Rescue said.

The men, both aged 20 were rescued on Saturday afternoon, spokesperson Johan Marais said.

Marais said the men had slept on the mountain on Friday night without a permit.

"This morning [Saturday morning] the Jonkershoek mountain was under cloud and while on their way down, they got lost. In the process they got stuck on a ledge in the vicinity of the Pieke.

"They made the right choice and called the reserve manager. WSAR deployed a whole team who upon receiving a location Pin from the stricken men... Our team proceeded to study the area with binoculars until they spotted the stricken students.”

Marais said the Skymed Air Mercy Service rescue helicopter arrived and took two technical climbers to the mountain.

Upon arrival the two men were hoisted out and flown off the Mountain. No injuries were reported.
