Cape Town – A Johannesburg man was hijacked, but got his car back hours later when he spotted it at a roadblock, police said on Saturday.

The man was hijacked in Ivory Park, Johannesburg on Friday, and the two suspects dropped him off in a nearby veld, police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said on Saturday.

The victim, who had hitched a ride in a taxi, spotted his car at a roadblock while heading to the police station.

“He ran to the traffic cops and told them it was his car. He explained he had hijacked and left in a veld,” Makhubele said.

The hijacked man explained that the suspects had stolen his watch and other items, which were found on the two suspects when they were searched.

“An unlicensed firearm was also found on the two suspects, who were arrested on the spot,” he said.

They would be charged with hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
