The Moving Ahead Development Agency (Mada) together with In2it Technology hosted a “Don’t dis my ability” event in honour of International Disability Day on Sunday. The event took place at the Mogale City Hall in Krugersdorp, where 20 laptops were donated to two centres for persons living with disabilities.

The laptops were installed with basic computer software to ensure that young people with disabilities are given ICT skills in line with the work readiness programme. Mada is a non-profit organisation that focuses on skills, enterprise, social and career development.

In October the agency teamed up with award-winning comedians Mashabela Galane and Salesman for a comedy show that aimed to raise funds for the online learning kits that were distributed on Sunday.

“The funds raised at the comedy show helped us buy the donated computers which will help persons living with disabilities to learn basic computer skills via our online software,” Tshepo Mokoena, the CEO of Mada told DRUM.

“Comedy was an obvious choice for our fundraiser since it is so popular.  Mashabela and Salesman were very willing to be part of the fundraiser because they like supporting social initiatives,” he added.

Gauteng health MEC, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, and MEC for social development, Nandi Mayathula Khoza were some of the guests attending the “Don’t dis my ability”.
