Police are on the hunt for a 31-year-old Mahikeng man wanted in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old woman and her 52-year-old mother.

It is believed that the man shot his 20-year-old girlfriend and her mother dead and wounded their two-year-old son, and his girlfriend's brother in Lonely Park at about 09:00 on Tuesday, North West police have said.

"At this stage, we do not know what caused the guy to shoot these people," Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said.

The toddler and his uncle survived.

The boy was taken through to Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg, which offers specialised care.

Police are investigating two cases of murder and two of attempted murder.

Anyone who has information about the suspect's whereabouts can contact the investigating officer, Colonel Maqandela on 060 878 7602.
