Cape Town – Sea rescue teams are searching for a fisherman who fell from a vessel near Cape Point on Wednesday morning, the NSRI said.

The 43-year-old went overboard as the Maria Louisa was motoring toward fishing grounds, National Sea Rescue Institute Kommetjie station commander Ian Klopper said in a statement.

The reason why he fell overboard was unclear. The vessel was two nautical miles, roughly 3.7km, from Cape Point when the crew realised he was missing.

An NSRI rescue swimmer, a Western Cape emergency services rescue diver, and a Skymed rescue helicopter were looking for him, along with the Maria Louisa and a private boat.

By Wednesday afternoon there was no trace of him. Ships in the area had been alerted to keep a lookout.
