Durban – The case involving a 34-year-old man accused of allegedly stabbing his estranged wife to death in KwaDabeka, Clermont, was remanded until January 27.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that Baxolele Majola, who appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, was in police custody.

It is alleged that on November 8, Majola stabbed legal assistant Thulisile Lembede, 32, at his home in KwaDabeka, Clermont.

It is alleged Majola fetched a knife and stabbed Lembede in the chest. She later died of her injuries.

Family spokesperson Dolly Hadebe and members of the community picketed outside the court on Monday morning, demanding that Majola not get bail.

"The mother of the deceased could not stop crying when she saw Majola in court; the wound is still fresh so we are happy he did not get bail," said Hadebe.

She said this case proved that there was still a lot that needed to be done to highlight the abuse of women.

"There is a cycle of abuse that never ends in society… It is 16 Days of Activism, but what are we doing wrong as a society?"
