Cape Town - A George man who initially faced more than 3 000 charges of rape and child pornography has pleaded guilty to 67 of them as part of a plea agreement.

Eyewitness News reported that the State agreed to the plea bargain in exchange for a life sentence after the 51-year-old man admitted to the 67 charges.

They included drugging and raping seven of his daughter's friends during sleepovers at his home between 2012 and 2014. The girls were aged between 10 and 12.

Die Burger reported that the man admitted to giving the girls sleeping pills and said they were not conscious when he raped them and took photographs of them naked.

Police seized his camera, laptop, and cellphone before his arrest late in 2014.

Friends and family of the young victims expressed disappointment that he only admitted to 67 charges, Die Burger reported.

The case was postponed to February 29 for sentencing. The man would remain in custody until then.
