Lusikisiki - A 30 year-old male was allegedly murdered by community members for the death of his friend in the Magwa falls, in the Eastern Cape on Saturday, provincial government said.

Provincial government spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said the man was beaten up by the community members.

“They tied his hands and legs with rod wire and pushed him off an approximately 500 metre cliff,” Kupelo said.

Meanwhile, the missing friend he was falsely accused of killing, was later found in a tea plantations with limbs and head cut off.

Both Eastern Cape emergency and an army helicopter failed to retrieve the body.

He said the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) helped to rescue the body on Saturday afternoon.   

Kupelo said the Eastern Cape government condemned community vigilantism; and people should not take law into their own hands. 

The Provincial Government had urged police to ensure that perpetrators of this barbaric act are brought to book for justice to be served.
