Bloemfontein – A man has been arrested in connection with the abduction and gang-rape of a 14-year-old Free State girl, police said on Thursday.

The 35-year-old man, believed to be from Gauteng, was arrested after Harrismith residents identified him, Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said.

He would appear in the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Three other suspects were still at large.

The girl was forced into a bakkie and blindfolded while on her way to school on Monday. She was raped in the moving bakkie and taken to a house where three other men raped her. Afterwards, a woman who was in the house, instructed her to take a bath.

In a separate incident, four men in a blue Toyota bakkie allegedly abducted a 15-year-old girl on her way home from a filling station in QwaQwa on Sunday night.

She was taken to a house where she was forced to take tablets, raped and held overnight. Her attackers instructed her to take a bath. She was left on the streets on Monday morning.

Last week, six men were arrested after they allegedly raped two girls and left them at a hiking spot in Bloemfontein in February.
