Durban – A 32-year-old man who has been arrested for the murder of a Lamontville taxi owner in Durban, was believed to be linked to other taxi related crimes in KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the arrest was made on Monday by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team.

Zwane said that on October 3, 2015, Khehla Ndebele, 26, was fatally shot by unknown suspects at Msimango Road in Lamontville. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

A case of murder was reported at the Lamontville Police Station and the docket was transferred to the task team for further investigation.

"Members followed-up information since then and [this suspect] was subsequently arrested in Umlazi township."

He will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on January 14, facing murder charges.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the officers for the breakthrough.

"We believe that the suspect will be linked to other taxi related crimes in the province and his accomplices will be arrested soon," she said.
