The Hawks on Wednesday swooped on a property in Crowned Eagle Way in the swish suburb of Ferncliffe, where they allegedly bust the operation of a hydroponic dagga laboratory.

One man was arrested by the Pietermaritzburg Hawks.

Pietermaritzburg police spokesperson Sergeant Mthokozisi Ngobese said police had received intelligence and raided the home early on Wednesday morning.

When The Witness arrived at the house on Wednesday, about six police cars and a paramedic vehicle were parked outside.

ER24 paramedics confirmed they were there on the off-chance they might be needed.

The large house is surrounded by a high wall, set in a leafy garden.

Curious neighbours drove past, with one reversing to ask Witness reporters what was happening in the road.

Ngobese said the 46-year-old man will appear in court today.

“Members pounced on the house after receiving information about the dagga lab operating in the area,” he said.

Ngobese said after searching the house, they found and confiscated dagga plants and machinery.

“The suspect was charged for the cultivation and possession of dagga.”

Police were seen loading dagga plants into a van and speaking to the occupants of the house.
