Man caught with abalone in Free State

Bloemfontein – A 31-year-old man was arrested after 50 bags of abalone were found in his possession on Wednesday, Free State police said.  

A highway patrol stopped and search his car about 12km outside Trompsburg around 04:30, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Annelie Wrensch said.

He was going towards Bloemfontein. It was not known where he was taking the abalone.

He would appear in the Trompsburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday on a charge of illegal possession of abalone.
