Johannesburg – A 25-year-old man drowned at a caravan park in Gauteng on Saturday, the paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said the deceased allegedly dove into the Vaal river and was underwater for over an hour in Vanderbijlpark.

“SAPS divers assisted in retrieving the man from the water so that paramedics could assess him. Sadly the man had already succumbed to his injuries,” he said in a statement.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities were investigating, Rossouw said.
