Bloemfontein – A man convicted of raping a woman a few days before her wedding, was handed two life sentences and 18 years by the Free State High Court in Harrismith on Friday, police said. Mojalefa Koro, 24, was given 15 years for housebreaking and rape, two years for kidnapping and a year for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to the woman he raped, police spokesperson Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said. All the sentences would run concurrently with the life sentences.Koro and his friend raped a 22-year-old woman on December 13 2013 at Harankopane in QwaQwa, Free State. The woman was nine days away from getting married. The other suspect was still on the run."The two men stormed into the woman’s home while she was sleeping with her family… The two attacked the family and held them at gunpoint and took two cellphones. On their way out, they forced the woman outside, raped [her] and assaulted her with sticks," said Mophiring. Koro was arrested after DNA tests linked him to the rape. "I want to applaud the woman for the brave decisions and cooperation she gave into her investigation, including support from her family for justice to prevail," Free State police commissioner Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe said in a statement.
