Johannesburg - A 54-year-old man was gunned down in a house robbery in Bramley, Johannesburg, early on Sunday, police said.

Spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said three men broke through the back door of the house in Kelvin Road at about 05:15 and shot the man.

They stole jewellery and phones and ran away, and police are trying to track them down.

He said the man's wife and a male domestic worker were present during the home invasion but were not physically harmed.

Netcare911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said they were called to the scene and found that the man had been shot several times.

"Tragically his injuries were fatal and documentation pertaining to his death was completed by paramedics and handed over to the SAPS at the scene."
