Johannesburg – A 28-year old man was arrested in connection with the rape of a 19-year old woman on Saturday.

The man is believed to be part of a group of three people that raped the woman in Jeppe Street near the Johannesburg CBD.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the attack happened early in the morning at a “dark building” in the area.

“The victim was walking at the corner of Nugget Street and Jeppe Street when she was confronted by a suspect; he threatened her with a knife and demanded her cellphone. The victim had no cell phone in her possession and he forced her to a dark building.”

Mbele said the suspect was accompanied by two other men who raped the woman at the building.

A search is still going on for the remaining two suspects while the arrested man will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
