Cape Town – A man was arrested on Saturday afternoon after being found with firearms, explosives and ammunition in Bishop Lavis, Western Cape police said.

At his home, officers discovered 9mm and 7.65mm firearms, 600 gram PE4 explosives, six detonators, a safety fuse, a variety of different ammunition, a bulletproof vest and firearm maintenance equipment, said Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut.

The man, 30, was expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“The circumstances surrounding the seizure, which is regarded as a significant success, and the suspect’s involvement in violent crimes perpetrated in gang affected areas are under investigation.”
