Bloemfontein – A Free State man was arrested after he allegedly stole 160 cattle worth R1.1m, police said on Wednesday.

Willem Blignaut appeared in the Bethlehem Magistrate's Court on Tuesday where he was granted R100 000 bail, police spokesperson Captain Zweli Mohobeleli said.

The 38-year-old tenant from Erfenis farm near Bethlehem allegedly stole the cattle by selling the animals at auctions, farms and abattoirs, Mohobeleli said. The cattle belonged to his landlord.

The matter was postponed to December 6.
