Man in dock for murder of off-duty Grahamstown cop

Grahamstown - A 32-year-old man appeared in the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the murder of an off-duty policeman.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday for the murder of Warrant Officer Alby Julius, 48, after Julius's body was found in the bushes near Sun City, Grahamstown, at 07:00 on Saturday morning.

Julius was stationed at the Grahamstown police station.

When his body was found, his cellphone was missing.

Anthony Swarts appeared in the dock on charges of murder and robbery.

The case was postponed to August 15 for a bail application.

Police said the motive for the murder was being investigated.
