Cape Town – A man was killed and sixteen others people injured after a minibus-taxi and two cars collided in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said on Saturday.

When they arrived at the M4 South near Merebank on Friday night, they found the overturned taxi on its side, said Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

A man was declared dead on scene. Some of the passengers were ejected from the taxi and seriously injured.

The freeway was closed while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

Jamieson said the cause of the collision was unknown at this stage. Police were investigating.
