Cape Town - A man was killed in a light aircraft crash in the Keerboskloof area of De Doorns, in the Western Cape, on Monday, paramedics said.

As the aircraft was flying between mountains in the area, people heard a loud noise and saw smoke, ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said.

Police, ER24, Metro and Fire and Rescue attended to the incident.

An Air Mercy Service helicopter was activated.

Rescuers found the wreckage of the aircraft, which had caught alight.

“They were able to retrieve the body of a man, which was found close to the wreckage. Sadly there was nothing that could be done for the man, in his 20's, who sustained burn wounds. He was declared dead.”

The cause of the crash was not yet known.
