Durban - A man lost both his vehicle and his arm in an accident in Broadway, Durban North on Monday evening.

Paramedics arrived at the accident scene and found that his car had lost control and smashed into an Armco barrier, said Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.

"The driver had suffered a traumatic amputation to his left arm and advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize him before he was placed on to a mechanical ventilator and transported by ambulance to a near by hospital for immediate further care," said van Reenen.

According to Netcare 911, the driver was hurled out of the vehicle.

He had been travelling with two other passengers in the car.

"[The] two others miraculously escaped with minor injuries," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

They were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further medical care.
