Johannesburg – A man found himself in trouble after he battled to climb down an electricity pylon in Bloemfontein on Thursday morning.

Paramedics found the man stranded 40 metres above the ground, said ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring.

The medics had been called to the scene by the police.

"Free State EMS College and ER24 paramedics used specialised rescue equipment to make their way to the patient. Once paramedics reached the patient, he was placed in a harness and returned safely to the ground," Mering said.

The man received some medical treatment on scene before being transported to hospital.

"He was in a bit of a state so we just provided him with emotional support and we assessed his vital signs before taking him to the hospital," said Meiring,

It was unclear how he had landed up the pylon.
