Man breaks into car, stabs cop, gets shot

Cape Town – A man was shot and wounded after he allegedly stabbed a policeman who tried to arrest him near the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The shooting happened in Albertus Street at 10:50, police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said.

The 25-year-old man allegedly tried to break into a car earlier.

Police tried to arrest him and a fight broke out, during which he allegedly stabbed an officer.

Another police officer shot and wounded him.

He was arrested and taken to hospital.

Details of the stabbed policeman's condition were not immediately available. 

A case of attempted murder was being investigated against the man.
