Johannesburg - A man is fighting for his life in a Johannesburg hospital after he was shot and dumped in the veld near Vlakfontein, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said that the man was understood to have been hijacked. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the veld in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“It is believed that the man was hijacked earlier yesterday [Tuesday] evening and the suspects allegedly dumped him in the veld and shot him,” she said.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene near the Golden Highway in Vlakfontein and found the man lying in the veld. He was assessed and found to be in a critical condition.”

“The man, believed to be in his 30’s, was treated and transported to hospital for further medical care,” Bodasing added.

She said that police were investigating the matter.
