Johannesburg – A man was rushed to hospital after being shot several times in Bedfordview on Tuesday morning, Gauteng police said.

He had been sitting in his car when the gunman fired and then ran away, said police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele.

"We don't know the motive. A laptop and cash were found in his car," he said.

The shooting took place near Bedford Centre around 11:00.

The man was shot in the upper body but his condition was not immediately clear.

Police were investigating attempted murder and were still on scene.
