Bloemfontein – A man was stoned to death in Bloemfontein at the weekend, Free State police said on Monday.

A passer-by found the man in a pool of blood next to a railway line in Mannion Street, Oranjesig, on Sunday morning, Captain Chaka Marope said.

He had wounds to the upper body, including his face and head. He was wearing blue jeans, black Puma shoes, a blue and grey T-shirt, and a black and white cap. He was believed to be in his 30s.

Four large, blood-stained stones were found next to him.

The murder was suspected to be gang related. The victim had the number 34 written on his right hand.

No arrests had been made.
