Durban – Paramedics battled for nearly 30 minutes to save the life of a Durban accident victim on Saturday afternoon, but their efforts were in vain after he died of cardiac arrest at the scene of the smash.

The accident took place on the N2 near Higginson Highway. A bakkie was also believed to be involved in the accident.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said that paramedics from various emergency services responded to the scene and attempted to save the man after he went into cardiac arrest, however, he was declared dead after almost half an hour of CPR.

"Sadly, there was nothing more they could do for the man," Mathe said.

Metro police also responded to the scene and are investigating the circumstances of the man's death.
