Johannesburg - A man was critically injured after he got struck by lightning in Meyerton, south of Johannesburg, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said paramedics and fire and rescue services found the man lying in a veld, several metres away from Johan le Roux road on Friday afternoon.

He was in a critical condition, and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

A woman was killed on Thursday when she was struck by lightning in the Mpumalanga Lowveld during a storm.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe said the 30-year-old was working on a farm near the Lowveld College of Agriculture when the incident occurred.

Paramedics carried out CPR on the woman, who was still alive when they arrived on the scene but in a critical condition, she said.

"Paramedics managed to stabilise the critically injured woman on scene and then transported her to a nearby hospital for further medical care," said Mathe. "Sadly, the woman died in hospital this evening [Thursday]."
