Manhunt for ex-employee after armed robbery at bank

2016-01-05 14:45

Cape Town - A manhunt has been launched for two armed robbers who made off with a "substantial" amount of cash from a bank in Stella, North West police said on Tuesday.

One of the suspects was believed to be a former employee of the bank, said police spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko.

He entered the bank under the pretense that he wanted to inspect a safe door, as he was currently employed by a security company contracted to do the job.

His accomplice then joined him. They held staff at gunpoint and took the cash from the safe.

The pair fled in a nearby vehicle.

Ramaloko said the identity of one of the suspects was known.

Police were investigating.
