Johannesburg – Gauteng police have launched a manhunt after the murder of a 37-year-old man in Reiger Park, east of Johannesburg.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said police were looking for two men who shot and killed a man outside a spares shop in Erica Street in Reiger Park on Friday afternoon.

"The suspects are said to have left the scene in a white Polo hatch," Masondo said.

News24 understands that the deceased was an alleged crime boss, but Masondo said "that cannot be confirmed at this stage".

He added that the motive for the killing was unclear and that police investigations were ongoing.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
