Durban – A body of a man has been found with four gunshot wounds in Mariannhill, west of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

Members of the Durban search and rescue unit were called out to the Asinamali informal settlement at Mercury Crescent earlier on Friday to recover the body of the unknown man, police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a case of murder had been opened at the Mariannhill police station for investigation.

"The body was found next to the railway line. No arrests have been made, but police investigations continue," he said.

Police urged anyone with information on the shooting to call their Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
