Pietermaritzburg - Matric pupils who sat for their second Afrikaans paper on Wednesday felt it was “tricky”.

Speaking to The Witness yesterday Heather Secondary School’s Silindile Bujela (18), who is originally from Umzimkhulu, said, “The paper was difficult. The way the questions were structured was complex. I always want to try new things … if we were offered French I would do it.”

Head boy Navesan Govender (18) said, “The paper was challenging but I managed. I am able to understand IsiZulu so I did not opt to study it, and rather chose Afrikaans. My friends helped me out a lot. I might leave this country so I do not think I will use Afrikaans after school.”

The school’s head girl Hannah Padayachee (17) said, “The paper was tricky. The way the questions were structured was different to what we did in class. But, I don’t feel the pressure. I am confident in myself.”
