Mbete to address ANC celebration in Grabouw

2016-01-29 18:10

Cape Town – The embattled ANC in the Western Cape will celebrate the party’s January 8th Statement on Saturday.

The celebrations were supposed to be held earlier this month in Grabouw, but were postponed at the last minute.

ANC provincial deputy secretary Thandi Manikivana said at the time that the party had decided to postpone the celebrations because of disagreements with the municipality.

ANC chairperson Baleka Mbete will deliver the keynote address at Saturday’s event, which is being held at the Pine View sports field in Grabouw, Overberg, from 10:00.

It is not clear if provincial leader Marius Fransman will be part of the programme.

He was asked to step down by the national leadership while an investigation into sexual harassment against him continues.

Provincial secretary Faiez Jacobs, meanwhile, has been given 48 hours to give reasons why he should not be suspended from the party.

Jacobs was placed on precautionary suspension in December after he was accused of assaulting a staff member.

He went back to work on Tuesday after the suspension was set aside on Monday.
