Johannesburg - Three members of anti-gay American pastor Steven Anderson's church have been prevented from entering the country, the Department of Home Affairs says.

They were stopped earlier on Saturday, department spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete told News24.

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba announced on Tuesday that Anderson would not be granted a visa to visit South Africa.

"Mr Steven Anderson and members and/or associates of his church are prohibited from entering the Republic of South Africa," Gigaba said at the time.

One of the three trying to enter South Africa was stopped at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport, while another was prevented in Germany from travelling to South Africa. Tshwete would not say where in Germany the person was stopped.

He had earlier said the skids had been put on the person in Zurich, Switzerland.

Tshwete said the third person was still trying to get into the country. Here too, he wouldn't divulge more details.
