Cape Town - The Metrorail train driver who was shot dead on Monday while waiting for a train will be remembered at a memorial service on Thursday.

The family of Piet Botha will be holding the service at the  Netreg station in Cape Town, where he was shot and killed.

Western Cape Transport MEC Donald Grant and Metrorail regional manager Richard Walker will also attend.

Botha, 46, had been doing refresher training on a railway line and was waiting for a train when he was killed on Monday, the United National Transport Union said.

Two people were arrested earlier this week in connection with the murder, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

They would appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate's court on Thursday.
