Cape Town – A group of men have been arrested for allegedly claiming that carjackers robbed them of a trailer loaded with home appliances in Cape Town, police said on Monday.

Two men went to the Harare police station on Saturday to report that their truck and trailer were targeted while they were driving on the N2, according to a SA Police Service post on Facebook.

They claimed a vehicle collided with their truck and forced them to stop. They also claimed they fled the scene on foot after the driver of the vehicle pointed a firearm at them.

Officers opened a carjacking case and transferred the matter to Macassar station.

It emerged that the incident apparently never took place.

The investigation led police to addresses in Paarl and Milnerton, where they recovered stolen home appliances with an estimated value of R200 000.

Six people between the ages of 26 and 35 were arrested for perjury and defeating the ends of justice, the post stated.

They would appear in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court once charged.
