Pretoria - A 6-year-old Soshanguve child is recovering at his mother’s house after his uncle allegedly tried to circumcise him with a razor.

The 6-year-old, who is disabled and can't walk or use his hands, was left in the care of his uncle while his mother went to fetch water. While retrieving the water, the mother said she heard her child scream.

"When I tried to get into the house, I found the door locked," said the mother.

"I broke the window and told him to give me the child because he was refusing to open the door."

But the mother's demands fell on deaf ears.

She said she continued to scream at the uncle until eventually he pushed the boy through the window into his mother's arms.

Seeing the blood on the child, the mother said she thought her worst nightmare would be realised.

"I thought he was going to die. I rushed him to the hospital but they said he was not badly injured... At the hospital, they circumcised him," she said.

The traumatised mother said she wanted nothing to do with her brother. She said she would not welcome the brother back to the house.

She added, however, that she would not open a case against her brother as he was mentally challenged.
