Kimberley - Lee-Anne Adonis, the "miracle" preemie baby, died on Friday morning, Netwerk24 reported.
The baby was born on January 12 at between 22 and 25 weeks and weighed only 525g.
She died before her mother had a chance to see her again.
Antoinette Adonis would have got a ride to Bloemfontein, where Lee-Anne was in hospital, from Kimberley on Friday evening.
Mediclinic Bloemfontein’s spokesperson Barbara Steenkamp confirmed that Lee-Anne died at 09:15 due to an intestinal infection. It is common in premature babies, she said.
Many readers offered to help Antoinette get to Bloemfontein to see her baby.
She was born in an ambulance on the way to a hospital in Kakamas.
